What is the Metro is Accessible Project?
Metro is Accessible is a public awareness outreach campaign
created to provide information about accessibility features to
current and potential Metro customers as well as the public at-large.
The outreach project is targeted to audiences of people with disabilities
and disability advocacy organizations, as well as social service
agencies.
Metro is Accessible includes a Speakers Bureau, bus and rail
system orientation sessions, as well as a Public Service Announcement
(PSA) poster campaign to spread the message throughout the communities
we serve.
Another aspect of the Metro is Accessible project is the Train
the Travel Trainer Workshops, which allow travel trainers and orientation
and mobility trainers to incorporate the Metro system orientation
into their existing travel training programs.
Metro System Orientation Sessions
To further assist our customers with disabilities with using the
Metro system for travel all around the region, we offer orientation
sessions on our Metrorail and Metrobus systems to provide hands-on
learning. These orientation sessions are available one-on-one or
in a group atmosphere. During the orientations, you will learn
everything from how to locate Metrobus stops and Metrorail stations
to purchasing a farecard and navigating the system. To schedule
an orientation, please call 202/962-1558.
Speakers Bureau
The Metro is Accessible Speakers Bureau consists of Metro employees
and volunteers who donate their time to speak with groups on the
accessibility features of the Metro system. These volunteers are
available to meet with groups interested in learning more. Please
call 202/962-1558 to schedule a speaker for your next meeting.
